Look, people! I'm blogging about Glee again!

Mainly because Season 6, episode 6 is the most Brittana episode since like, season 2, episode 15 ("Sexy"), and I need to say something about last week's episode, okay?

Also, 6 pictures for 6x06, because, as if I was going to resist that! :p

I'm going to miss this show when it's over. I can't wait to watch the rest of the season, but I will miss it when it's over.

Played my first game of Twilight Imperium today. Three players, adjusted only slightly to account for not being able to keep secrets from myself. I played the human Federation of Sol, the Borg Lizix Mindnet, and the lizard-like Yssaril Tribes.

Look what contract just landed in my inbox!

Blacked out identifying details, obviously, but I can tell you that it doesn't involve working for Torchwood.

Still, it's exciting!

Landed!

I've been checking the arrivals at Sydney Airport, and after three weeks in Germany, my mother has officially landed back in Sydney.

I love that I can see this information online. Thank you, technology.

Buttons!!

Yesterday I discovered some buttons.

Today I decided that rather than stick them on one of my blogs, I'd turn them into a little quilt.

A quilt of me!

All I'm missing is chocolate.

Randomness

- There's a guy living near me who owns a wolf; I've seen them out walking occasionally. This wolf is the most beautiful animal I've ever seen. It's huge, and I mean massive, and it's utterly pure white except for a streak of gold down its back. It's an absolutely stunning animal. So much so, I need to mention it in a blog post. :)

- I'm just reading stories online about people being smuggled across borders, and it makes me remember my father's stories of leaving East Germany. He was still a child and his mother - my grandmother - got in friendly with the border guards. "Oh, the kids are just going to visit relatives. They'll be back." And they always were, so that's how they made the trip back and forth across the border: getting the guards to trust them. And one day they just didn't come back.

The only other thing my grandmother managed to smuggle out of the country with them was her sewing machine, because she wasn't leaving without her sewing machine! I don't know how she managed that, but this is the same woman who stole her teacher's cane by sticking it down the front of her dress, so who knows how creative she got with the sewing machine.

- LANDO CALRISSIAN IS GOING TO BE ON GLEE! Or at least the actor will be. Not as awesome as the time they had Chewbacca on the show, but still pretty awesome.

- Fascinating history: The Medieval Guide to Sexual Sin.
Only in darkness, fully clothed, in the missionary position, without "lewd kissing" and ideally without taking pleasure from the act.

I had a horrifying realisation a few days ago. It started when the lady at my friendly local game shop recognised me ("I've seen you come in occasionally. Do you play a lot of board games?"). You know you go into a busy shop too often when the owner recognises you. I ended up buying Merchants & Marauders, the most complicated game I've bought so far. The realisation hit me as I was walking home with my purchase: I'm an actual gamer now. I don't even know how this happened.

Merchants & Marauders is long, complex, and has a lot of detailed rules. It's definitely not for beginners. Unlike most of my other games, a non-gamer would never own this particular game. I spent four hours the next day walking myself through it with the rule book in front of me, and it's still going to take some learning to get the hang of. But from what I can tell, it has the potential to become a game I really love.

Yo ho ho! Two pictures and review below )

At that point my niece knocked on the door to get my attention and I was out of the game, but it was a great ending. I can still hear the cannon fire and smell the smoke of those last two battles. It was exciting enough to leave me bouncing on my bed with joy.

I'm looking forward to learning this game better.

Funny, now that Glee isn't in sync with the American school timetable, it's accidentally in sync with the Australian one. A lot of schools have their Formals (Proms) in October, with exams and the end of the school year coming up in December.

I won! I won, Pandemic! For the first time since Wednesday!

This is a great achievement since I played five games in a row on Friday and lost all of them! Either there were too many outbreaks, or I had 24 cases of one disease, or I ran out of cards! I think you need to lose a few (or five) times in a row to really appreciate winning.

pictures and more )

I also looked up Games Paradise yesterday. It's in the geek corner of the city (next to a large second-hand bookshop, and across the street from Kings Comics). So many board games in one place. Plus jigsaw puzzles and RPGs, and the like. I saw quite a few games from my wishlist. Now I know where I'm going for Christmas.

I now have Pandemic. Finally. I got the new (2013) version, which is slightly different to the original.

Played my first game Wednesday night (in two hours) and just managed to win, as in, I found the fourth cure just before having to draw the last card off the player deck. *phew* Dear self, you know, you are allowed to leave yourself some time. What's with all these nick-of-time saves?

I have my favourite show baaaack! I have missed it. My favourite cute little show. *cuddles and squeezes and loves and drags it after her* And it's all pretty candy colours now. *_* Shiny.

Even my lack of any Beatles fanning doesn't make this episode any less awesome. (I don't dislike The Beatles; they've just never grabbed me, is all.) Because I adored it all.

Citadels

I also decided to try out my brother's game, Citadels, which is a semi-fantasy card game.

Citadels )

To buy my games, I usually go to Eclipse (Westfield, Parramatta), and there's The Games Cube (Level 2, 79 Phillip St, Parramatta) that I haven't been to yet but want to check out. The one exception was Carcassonne, which I bought at Supanova, from Battlecraft Games and their shop is in Epping.

I wrote this entry before my computer died and it's actually about the Flash version of the boardgame, Carcassonne, that I mentioned yesterday.

Thanks to boardgamegeek I got myself addicted to this:

Carcassonne: Last Stend, by Elite Games
It's a free Flash version of the board game so that you can play the game in any internet browser. It's basically playing Carcassonne against the computer. It's the basic game without any expansions, only the scoring is different by a decimal point (so where you score 1 in the board game, you score 10 in this Flash version).

Or you can download this file and play it offline:
http://web2.flashgames.it/giochi/datavolo/carcassonne/game.swf
(5Mb)

I just drag and drop it into Chrome whenever I want to play.

AND NOW I CAN'T STOP PLAYING IT!

rules and screencaps )

Out of the three games I mentioned yesterday, I'd recommend this one the most because it's so simple but with enough variation to make each game a new experience. It also has the widest appeal outside just gamers and geeks; it's actually a family game.
elfinblaze: (me writing)
These are the board games I've been playing while I had no computer:

picture )

Text version:
- Carcassonne
- Citadels
- Talisman: The Dungeon Expansion

I have entries to write on all of them, but I'm going to start with The Dungeon because it's just an expansion of the game I've written about previously.

A couple of days ago tumblr reminded me that this place exists. So after playing the game on tumblr, I spent the rest of the day playing with dolls.

Yep, I obviously still like playing dress-up with dolls.

Last episode and not a cliffhanger in sight. Just stories to be further delved into next season. As it should be.
