- Apparently the insects that were flying all around my work place last summer were Black Flower Wasps, a native wasp. One of the patients said they might be native bees, but none of the native bee species have these beautiful bright blue wings, and I saw one of them burrowing into the ground. So I'm pretty sure they were Black Flower Wasps. They were beautiful!

Except for Haymarket, they mostly look Caucasian, although 3% Indigenous participants is not bad, considering the Indigenous population is 2% of the population of the whole country.

I would love to see one of these done of Parramatta, which has the highest migrant population in Australia. I once counted 1:3 Caucasian:non-Caucasian people in Parramatta, realising of course that Caucasian doesn't necessarily mean they were born here and that non-Causasian doesn't mean they weren't, just like I wasn't. But given a project completely based on appearance as the above project is, the face of Parramatta would look quite different.

- P!nk's new video is out! In more ways than one. I just watched it, and I'm a little embarrassed to admit it made me cry. The video shows all the people who don't fit the "ideal" in today's Western society: Asian, African, fat, old, gay, geeky, and it's the most beautiful video I've seen in a long time (although the thing with the milking is weird).

I started reading Ruth Park's autobiography today. Amazing reading and it's obvious from the first sentence that she's a writer, because wow, the images she conjures. It reads like a novel even though it's non-fiction.
