- Congratulations, Egypt!

- Most interesting event of the day: seeing a chicken at a bus stop. A live one. No one carrying the chicken, or anything. Just a chicken scratching away in the dirt.

- Most interesting event of the week: opening a set of automatic doors for a man who'd got looked out on a balcony when the doors wouldn't open again for him. Having once been locked in a building with doors like that (actually I've got myself locked in several buildings, but those are stories for other times), always look for the green button beside the doors. It's the wheelchair accessible button, and it will always open the doors (unless they're actually truly locked and you have to climb out a window, but again, story for another time).

- It's been a year today since I got this scar (well, no, yesterday, considering it's past midnight): ( click for picture ). For the record: my wrist still hurts sometimes, odd little twinges, when I put a lot of pressure on it, or when it's really hot. O_o But mostly, it's just a faded scar on the inside of my left forearm (no, I will probably never stop making Death Eater jokes about that).

And now I need to get to bed. @_@

We had a patient booked in earlier this week who had to cancel because she got bitten by ticks. She re-booked for Friday.

Today she called up and cancelled because she'd been bitten by a Redback. Understandably, she wasn't feeling too well.

I'm just hoping she doesn't up the ante by getting bitten by a snake next.

Also, five more days until my cast comes off! Yay!

Gotta love Australian athletes at the Winter Olympics. First a guy wins speed skating by being the only competetor left standing. Twice. Then the men's double bobsled team completes the entire track upside-down.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Germany and the luge. Hooray for dominating the insane sports? =/

Haven't been watching as much of the Olympics now that I've gone back to work. I'm not as tired today but my wrist hurts. I also just dropped a roll of cellophane on my arm so that doesn't help. Doesn't seem to have done any further damage though. Methinks I'll just rest my arm for the rest of the night.

Mardi Gras is on this weekend but I don't think I'll be going this year. I can't imagine having much fun while guarding my arm against getting jostled all night. *sigh*

ETA: The Marriage Equality Private Members Bill is being debated in parliament tomorrow. I was thinking about this today when one of our patients, a woman my age, was talking about her upcoming wedding, and I was trying my damndest to tune out, because now any mention of marriage makes me feel jealous and bitter. I doubt the bill will pass (this is the bitter part of me talking), not with all those old fuddy-duddies we have in parliament now. Maybe in 20 years time, but I'm not holding my breath.

ETA 2: Mind you, if by some miracle it does pass, I'm definitely going to the Mardi Gras, because there will be no party on Earth like it.

Arm update:

The swelling had gone down so much that my plaster cast was loose this morning. It was bloody heavy though. Anyway, today was the day to get my new fibreglass cast. It's blue! I could have chosen white or pink but really, blue is still my favourite colour. And it's light! No more kilogram weight hanging off the end of my arm!

The cut from the surgery looks awful though. Well, the doctor reckons it looks good; I reckon it looks terrible! Like cut pieces of ham. ;_; My poor wrist. I almost fainted when I saw it. (I'm also on my period, but I really hate my blood pressure normally.)

Oh well, five more weeks until this cast comes off.

And look! Typing with both hands. Well, one hand and one finger, but it's a start.

I have the best friends and family in the world! All your comments have made me feel so loved, and so much better. Thank you, everyone!

My bones don't hurt anymore at all; mostly I'm just feeling the wound from the surgery now. I'm hopeful that that means I'm healing. I can move my fingers almost fully now, but my thumb still only moves slowly and sometimes jerkily in the vague direction I want it to go. It's a bit funny to watch.

But I'm sure it'll get better soon. At least it's not purple anymore.

viciousdisorder dropped by yesterday to bring me a green sponge cake which was covered in chocolate. I'm considering that my "Get Well Soon" cake, and the mud cake we bought today will be my birthday cake. We'll be celebrating at home tonight.

Thank you everyone who commented and made me feel less isolated. I really needed that.

I broke my wrist this afternoon. To be precice: the left distal radius. To be blunt: I broke the head off the radius. Also broke the ulna, but that piece is so small they're leaving it to heal on its own. Yeah, both bones, I'm that talented.

Going in for surgery tomorrow. They're going to put a plate in. So I'll be in hospital over Friday night and probably won't be online 'til Saturday.

(It was another one of those stupid situations. When I was twelve I broke my arm after falling off a couch. This time I was crossing a road and slipped. Next thing I know, my hand's at an angle it's not supposed to be.)

Now I'm going to attempt to sleep. I've taken painkillers but no effect: it still hurts like a bugger.
