I thought I'd tell you all a little bit about my new work place, after my first two weeks. If you're interested, read on.

So this is the group I work with, six people apart from me (pseudonyms used, obviously): There's Elle and Hillary who are best friends. They're about the same age (mid-twenties) and they share a cubicle in the office. I've yet to get to know them well enough to think of them as separate people, plus their cubicle is a bit removed from the rest of my team.

I share a cubicle with Anna, who is the oldest person I've met at the office, which is great because I've always preferred the company of older people. She fun and easy-going, and a bit of a mother to all the rest of us. Opposite us (that is, behind our cubicle wall) are Harris - the only guy in the team - and our manager, whom I will call "Manager". If I want to talk the either of them (eg. "Harriiiis, you've locked me out of the file... again!"), all I need to do is stand up to look over the divide.

On Anna's other side, is May, in a cubicle of her very own, because no one likes her. No, that's not true. May is hilarious. She told Harris that he was a bad bouncer (at his second job) because he didn't personally do the drugs he confiscated off other people. Harris laughed himself visibly red in the face over that comment (considering he's got medium brown skin, that's quite an achievement). May also told Anna that she was too old to learn anything new. That's just May; she's rude to everyone, but she's funny about it. She also vehemently defends her clients if anyone wrongs them ("They sent her to this thing, and she had a breakdown! Why would they do that?! Now she's back to square one! Just how stupid ARE they!?")

I've started collecting quotes from the team. Eg:

May: The good news is that I haven't killed myself this week!

Anna: We don't need a gym; there's too many of them already. We need another McDonalds, not a gym.

This week started off slow after the long weekend. I was just enjoying it. Then I got 200 pages to scan.

I thought that was awful.

The next day I got given 2,000 pages to scan and print!

May: Who the fuck is printing all this? I need to do wages!
Me: Go yell at Harris.
May: *walks out of copy room* HARRIS!!

After all that printing, May told him he owed me a box of chocolates. I agree. Took me most of the day to do all that.

I ended up staying at work late today, just to finish up some files. I still have a backlog of mail, but the office was nearly empty and kinda creepy, so I left at 5:45pm. I'll go in early and do it on Monday. I came in early, didn't have much of a lunch break (I locked my bag in my desk and ducked downstairs for some sushi, but went straight back up), and I'm still behind.

I guess that's normal. My sister told me that no one expects me to do everything... except that *I* expect me to do everything. I'm sure it'll become normal for me eventually, I'm just not used to having an overdue to-do list (even if none of it is pressing). I'm used to getting everything done. I don't like unfinished things. But at least I did what I could today... until the system rejected my data because the files weren't updated recently enough to continue, so Elle will have to look into that on Monday. But at least I can now say I did what I could before the weekend.

I have to say though, I enjoy working in a corporate environment. I love wearing suits; I look good in them! I like having a desk of my own. And I LOVE having pigeon holes!! I am ridiculously excited about my pigeon holes. I get to sort mail and stick it into pigeon holes for the rest of my team! My very own pigeon holes! *flail* Also sticky-notes, and my new favourite coffee place! Good things!
