- Finished reading Chris Colfer's newest Land of Stories book, The Enchantress Returns, because I love children's fiction and re-written fairytales. He's become one of those writers where I know they might not be technically flawless or revolutionary, but I know I will thoroughly enjoy every one of his books, and that counts far more for me personally.

The Enchantress Returns takes place over a year after The Wishing Spell, with the return of one of the greatest villains that the Land of Stories has ever encountered, and the twins, Conner and Alex, are back on a new quest to save the world. And more than one world, at that.

The characters are all wonderful, just like in the first book, and many of them, including the protagonists have undergone some growth in the time between books, grown up or just matured. My favourite character is still the sword-wielding outlaw, Goldilocks, but they're all vivid and interesting characters in general. All up, it's lively and engaging and I read it in two days flat. It's funny and fittingly dark in places, as all the best fairytales are.

It also has Colfer's usual quotable gems scattered so easily through it:

"Aren't writers supposed to be super smart?" Conner asked. "Don't they say things like, 'I concur' and 'I don't identify with the likes of this'? Those kinds of people are writers, not me. They'd laugh at me if I tried being one of them."
Mrs. Peters exhaled a small gust of air through her nose, which Conner remembered was her version of a laugh. "Intelligence is not a competition. There is plenty to go around, and there are many ways it can be demonstrated."
"But anyone can write, right?" Conner asked. "I mean, that's why authors get judged so harshly, isn't it? Because technically everyone could do it if they wanted."
"Just because anyone can do something doesn't mean everyone should," Mrs. Peters said. "Besides, anyone with an internet connection feels they have the credentials to critique or belittle anything these days."

And I have to give Colfer major props for the ending, which is perfect and yet utterly heart wrenching.

There better be a third book, is all I can say! XD I need to read it already.

- What is PopAsia doing to me? Now I have Trap, by Henry stuck in my head, and I've only ever heard it twice! Damn catchy music!

- Vote Below The Line is back online for any Australian voters, if you want to check out how preferences have been distributed in your seat. In my seat, for example, Labour is preferencing the Shooters and Fishers and even Fred Nile's party over the Democrats! I encourage you all to find out just how messed up the preferences in your seats are, because some of these are just insane.

The number of conservative parties on the ballot this year is depressing too.

But I am amused by the "Motoring Enthusiast Party". People really do create political parties out of anything and everything. I'm going to set up the "Secede Regi's Bedroom" party, so I can leave the country when I come home. And the "Stop The Greens" party sounds like those people in fandom who just run on bashing characters, and are just as uninspiring.
