- I was in the new Galaxy bookshop yesterday because I had a voucher about to expire, and bought two more books I really don't need. The shop is now upstairs at the general Abbey's Bookshop, with the language bookshop, so now it's twice as evil as it was before, because now I can lose myself in two shops instead of one! They have plenty of German language books, so there's that temptation to resist too. In the end I bought two fantasy books.

The one I'm reading first is Jes Batiss' Night Child, which is the first book in a series of paranormal detective fiction set in Vancouver. It's fairly short and I'll probably be done with it tomorrow.

I also bought a brick. Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings, the TOR publication, which has the whole book in one, and is 1,200 pages long. So if I ever need anything heavy in my bag to beat someone over the head with... Nah, I can't wait to get stuck into that one. That should keep me entertained for a week.

- We've gone over our bandwidth cap again, so I've disabled all images loading in Firefox so that pages will load faster for me, just with pure text. It's really illuminating to see which websites are still accessable or useful even without images.

- Autostraddle do much more entertaining Glee recaps than I do and I agree with everything they wrote to a creepy get-out-of-my-head extent, so basically, what they said. Also I can't upload images on my current connection, so go read their recap if you want pretty pictures. [EDIT 2011.10.01: My own pictures are now uploaded and added below the cut.]

I'll just add my own thoughts quickly here:

I love that Beccy can hold her own against Santana! I love Santana, but go Beccy!

Quinn looked hot. I've never really got the Diana Agron appeal - I mean, she's pretty, but so are a lot of people - but this episode she made me sit up an pay attention. I kind of want to see more of her gang too, but I'm not holding my breath on that.

I also want to see more of Sugar. Her performance made me laugh. I don't know the actress but she's wonderful.

Also Kurt and Blaine made my little black heart go warm and fuzzy as usual. I'm not sure how just two smitten teenagers have managed to do that, but... I love their interactions, I love how comfortable they are with each other and how they're clearly still best friends, whatever else they may be.

Blaine: Let me get this straight: I have to transfer because you're afraid I'm going to beat you at Sectionals.
Kurt: No, I'm afraid I going to beat you. And I know what that does to you, when I win.

Obviously that relationship won't last forever (come on, it's a TV show!) but it's nice to watch while it does.

Also, I kinda really want a Blaine/Santana friendship, because a) I'm shallow and they're both pretty, and that a whole lot of pretty on the screen at once, b) Santana needs a friend, someone apart from Brittany, and c) I just want the gay kids to team up, but if I can't have a Kurt/Blaine/Santana friendship, I'll settle for Kurt/Santana or Blaine/Santana.

Also Kurt and Rachel. Thanks to them, I was hearing "Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead" for two days afterwards (try explaining that to other people: "I have 'Ding Dong, The Witch Is Dead' stuck in my head"). That was a fun performance. Very playful. And fittingly informal. Like "Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat" in season 1.

And just as Vocal Adrenalin gave them a reality check back then, NYADA comes along to blow them away by comparison here. I loved seeing Lindsay Pearce on screen. She did such a good job with that song and that performance.

In fact, I liked all the songs this episode. "We Got the Beat" was fun, and I loved Rachel, Santana, and Brittany leading on that one. And "You Can't Stop The Beat" was just as fun.

Allow me to zoom in:

Anyway, it was basically a set-up episode to set the stage for the rest of the season. And the first episode is usually a fluff episode anyway. But it was fun: everything that Glee is: colourful, musical, up-beat, with a cast full of wacky characters. I can't complain.

Oh, except for Lauren Zizes. I'm going to miss her.

- I cannot stop listening to The Jezabels! The more I listen to this album, the more I love it.
