Interesting theory on Cancer
Sep. 27th, 2003 05:45 pmI was talking to a lady from my Philosophy class yesterday. I told her I was studying cross cultural illness and healing in anthropology, especially how in many cultures the mind is considered such a powerful tool in the healing process, you know, the mind over matter idea. She agreed wholeheartedly and mentioned how a friend of hers was in cancer research.
Normally cells duplicate when you injure yourself, for example when you cut yourself the processes of cell duplication are set off and that heals the injury. In cancer, cells multiply unnecessarily, just because they want to multiply themselves, and that creates tumours and other stuff (there's a bone growing cancer that causes bones to grow thoughout the body for no reason).
This woman told me that some medical scientists are now investigating the possibility of cancer being a bodily response which attempts to heal a wound that's not physical.
