Glee Squee
Funny, now that Glee isn't in sync with the American school timetable, it's accidentally in sync with the Australian one. A lot of schools have their Formals (Proms) in October, with exams and the end of the school year coming up in December.
Glee, episode 5x02: Tina In The Sky With Diamonds

On first impression, I wasn't too taken with this episode, but after mulling it over, it's grown on me.
At first the comments on bisexuality made me uncomfortable, especially the "straying for dick" comment, but taking things into consideration:
1. Brittany got acknowledged "bisexual" in that precise wording, which is awesome!
2. It's Santana, and she's not known to be a nice person.
3. It's Santana, and given her history, I can see what it looks like from her perspective. The times she and Brittany weren't together, Brittany chose boys to date. Probably because they were the most readily available to her, but it also would have served to hurt Santana, who doesn't think much of men in general ("he's just a stupid boy"). And Santana probably resents that.
So, while uncomfortable to hear said, it makes sense from Santana's perspective.
Anyway, nervous Santana was adorable. I was right there with Rachel; it was cute. I continue to love Rachel's and Santana's friendship. Yay, friendships! This whole episode was great for friendships in general.

And Dani seems sweet. I did love "Here Comes The Sun." Partly because I actually like the sun, partly because I love mornings and sunrises and the light it gave the scene, and partly because the two of them just sound good together.
Santana was also fantastic in her commercial; she did a really good job. I'm all for this actress-Santana possibility! I loved that it was a commercial for treating yeast infections too, because it's perfect for the craziness that is Glee. Ah, this show...

I also loved Gunther taking the samples, much to everyone's bewilderment. :D
I think I'm going to enjoy this Diner-in-New-York group. Who would have thought, way back when the show started, that Kurt, Rachel, and Santana would be best friends and room mates? I like the promise of two years they made each other, while three-way pinky-swearing.

I'm also loving how much Kurt has got to sing in these last two episodes. I love his voice, so I'm pretty easy to please, and two duets and a line in a group number are alllll good for me.
Love Rachel so much in this episode. Playing match-maker for Santana, and then...
"I GOT FANNY!"

Probably the funniest line in the whole episode. It actually crossed my mind to turn that shout into a ringtone, just to see the looks that would get you, but I'm not brave enough for that. But it would be hilarious.
Very happy for Rachel though.
"I feel like I'm on Smash, season one."
Exactly, Rachel.

I didn't expect that success for her already, but it makes sense given what she's going to get hit with next episode. It's a good balance for the bad coming up.
I couldn't help but be reminded that Sam's story line was originally written for Finn, just a line or two that sounded like Finn, which was... odd. The ghost of Finn speaking through Sam's voice. But since teacher/student stories squick me, I'm not touching this one.
I spent the whole first scene with the nurse cringing, thinking, "you just stuck that needle in a piece of dead meat, CHANGE THE FREAKING NEEDLE!!" so I think I missed all the dialogue for internal screaming, but I'm glad that didn't go any further.
To be fair to Nurse Penny though, she's not actually that bad. She does have experience giving needles, she was just freaking out about the job, like she said. And they actually sort of got the Heimlich Manoeuvre right, and it is being taught again in First Aid classes. So she's not completely incompetent; she just seems a bit scatterbrained.
And I did love the three stooges, Sam, Ryder, and Jake, peering through the window. And Nipples The Stripping Clown, Sue's newest name for Sam, made me laugh.

Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was fun, and Marley needs to do more rock music. She would be an excellent rock chick. Also wear pants more often because she looks great in them. See also "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)".

Kitty interested me this episode. Normally she just confuses me, so this was great! Loved seeing her choose the Glee Club over the Cheerios, because she's realised she actually likes these people. I would call this her redemption episode. She's had some growth before, but now she actively plays a part in helping Glee Club. Or at least, helping one member. She hasn't done that before.
I'm so glad that I can put Tina's story as my last (and major) topic here. I have felt so sorry for her all (last) season, seeing her lose out on everything she'd been promised for her senior year (solos, leading Glee Club, her chance in general), so I get her anger and frustration, and her leaping at even the slightest chance of anything she craves so badly. So I'm not surprised she dumps Sam as her date when he doesn't get a Prom King nomination, because that's what she tends to do (see also "The New Rachel"). Not a kind thing to do, but that girl is starved for attention, so I'm not surprised she goes a bit mad when she gets it (maybe also a factor in her crush on Blaine).
I really want to hear the full song of "Revolution" now. That sounded good.
Of course Prom wasn't going to go off without a hitch - this is television after all - but that was without a doubt the most heartbreaking slushy the show has ever had.
I'm kind of boggled Stoner Brett McKowski (sp?) won over Blaine, who seems to be quite well liked at school, but without Brett winning I wouldn't have laughed out loud at the bucket hitting him on the head. Yes, I am a horrible person, but it did make me laugh.
I do love that the whole club leaves to follow Tina (in contrast to "Prom Queen", when only Blaine went after Kurt), and there are no recriminations in her moment of humiliation; just support. Blaine, as her best friend and leader of the Glee Club, is perfectly willing to walk out with her if that's what she decides, taking the student body President, Vice President, and the night's entertainment with him. But he lets her know that they all have her back, without condition. And when Artie hands her a towel, Tina accepts it.

The girls clean her up in a rather biblical scene of respect, and Kitty gives Tina the literal clothes off her back, thereby earning her redemption.
The girls group also includes Unique, proving how much all the other girls see her as one of them. That's pretty significant.

The boys re-crown Tina and give her flowers, and then walk beside her back to the gym.
And Tina - like Kurt - goes on to own that crown, like the goddess she is.
I love Blaine and Tina's ridiculous pet names for each other; she calls him Bling-Bling and Blainey Days, and he calls her Tay-Tay and Queen T. I adore that friendship.
Also, if Blaine and Sam have been leading the Glee Club all year, Tina's been leading the single and outsider girls of McKinley, first with the Too Young To Be Bitter Club with Sadie Hawkins, and now at Prom. So maybe it's fitting for Tina to wear pink, for all the girls she's been representing all year and leading in her own way. Because they need attention too, and she knows that better than anyone.
Finally, I loved "Let It Be." It's one of those wonderful group numbers with lots of different voices that I love so much. And it's all about friends sticking together and supporting each other. *loves*cuddles all the characters*
