I hate everything right now. Top of the list: my uterus and my computer. Terrible combination when they both decide to piss you off on the same day.

A word of advice: don't listen to P!nk's new album The Truth About Love for the first time in a drugged out haze, like I did. It had to grow on me after that, and I only realised on the third listen how much I loved the best bits. Which I really do. One thing I don't hate today is the album. Just my computer for ripping the tracks with errors in them. *beats it*

And I still hate cardboard flip covers! What does everyone have against jewel cases this year? All three new albums I've bought this year have had cardboard cases! I end up tearing and bending the cardboard cases in my frustrated attempts to get the bloody CDs out of them! So now I've transferred all those CDs into jewel cases so the cardboard cases don't get damaged every time I want at the CDs.

And here's a good explanation of the legal state of marriage law in Australia right now:
States leave Canberra behind in rush to same-sex marriage
The constitution grants the Federal Parliament a concurrent, rather than exclusive, power to make marriage laws. As with other areas such as taxation, this means that the states also retain power in the area.

Neither Family Law nor the Constitution are my strong points, and those topics bored me in Legal Studies, but this piece makes it very clear... well, just how murky the laws are in Australia, and what can and can't happen. I'm still not holding my breath though, just so everyone knows.

Told you I hated everything today. :) Stupid universe.

- Apparently the insects that were flying all around my work place last summer were Black Flower Wasps, a native wasp. One of the patients said they might be native bees, but none of the native bee species have these beautiful bright blue wings, and I saw one of them burrowing into the ground. So I'm pretty sure they were Black Flower Wasps. They were beautiful!

- From here:

15 most influential writers

The Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen authors (poets included) who have always influenced you and will always stick with you. List the first 15 you can recall in no more than 15 minutes, and they don't have to be listed in order of relevance to you.

The List )

- Missing scene from Doctor Who, between the season 5 episodes The Eleventh Hour and The Beast Below.

- O_O. Is that you, Tom Felton? Wow!

- The Face of Sydney.
Using specialist techniques, thousands of portraits of individual people have been compacted to provide a representative male and female "look" for the 160,000 residents of Sydney's City of Villages.

Except for Haymarket, they mostly look Caucasian, although 3% Indigenous participants is not bad, considering the Indigenous population is 2% of the population of the whole country.

I would love to see one of these done of Parramatta, which has the highest migrant population in Australia. I once counted 1:3 Caucasian:non-Caucasian people in Parramatta, realising of course that Caucasian doesn't necessarily mean they were born here and that non-Causasian doesn't mean they weren't, just like I wasn't. But given a project completely based on appearance as the above project is, the face of Parramatta would look quite different.

- P!nk's new video is out! In more ways than one. I just watched it, and I'm a little embarrassed to admit it made me cry. The video shows all the people who don't fit the "ideal" in today's Western society: Asian, African, fat, old, gay, geeky, and it's the most beautiful video I've seen in a long time (although the thing with the milking is weird).

"So raise your glass, if you are wrong in all the right ways!
All my underdogs,
We will never be (never be) anything but loud and nitty gritty!
Dirty little freaks, won't you come on, and come on, and
Raise your glass!"

- NaNo post is here.

- Missing Lesbian Couple Found: Jeanine Blanchette, 21, and Chantal Dube, 17, Died by Suicide

- You know what? Have some happy news: Tasmania is to become the first state in Australia to recognise same sex marriages from overseas. Look at this tiny island leading the way for this country.

- Here's some simple things everyone can do to make the world an easier place to live.

- Not (directly) QUILTBAG related: P!nk's new song is online! Go listen! It will cheer you up and make you want to dance.

And now I'm off to bed because pollen has been kicking my arse all day.
