- Last week I had an Englishman ask me where my accent came from. He was surprised when I said I was German. He'd thought I sounded extremely upper-class British, tempered somewhat by an Australian accent. He decided on that because of my precise ennunciation. He found it very pleasant to listen to.

This isn't the first time I've been told I have a slight British accent, but it's the first time I've been told that by an Englishman. I'm quite amused by this.

- Watched the first episode of Doctor Who, finally. And all I can say is my usual with this new series: "I'm confused." It's the same feeling as I had in every philosophy class I've ever taken. It just makes me feel stupid. Not in a condescending way, just in an oh-god-my-head sort of way.

- Glee episode 17, "Night of Neglect", is on Australian TV this Wednesday!

- As for episode 18, this site is selling replica t-shirts, plus a few extra. I kinda want one.

First of all, rest in peace, Elisabeth Sladen. You will be missed by a lot of people.

On a happier note...

Yay! I have my crazy show back!

I wasn't going to post this until after this episode screened in Australia, but I don't know when that will be, and I really don't have all that much to say about this episode, so I'll just put it up today. I know I said I'd never watch this show at 5am again, and I didn't watch it at 5am. I watched it at 4am. Because I've been wide awake since 3am (I went to bed at 8pm last night and my body now refuses to let me sleep more than 7 hours even when I want to!), so I watched Glee instead of tossing and turning. Then I went to work and typed up my thoughts, so I will post them now before I keel over.

I promise I was wide awake when I watched it this time though. I thoroughly enjoyed it, because when you're awake and bouncing at 4am, nothing is silly and everything is awesome. In fact, I think everyone should watch this show at 4 o'clock in the morning.

Glee, episode 2x17, "Night of Neglect".

I don't know when "Night of Neglect" will be on in Australia; it's not next Monday, is all I know. But Channel 10's apparently having a Glee marathon tomorrow (Good Friday – how fitting). This site tells me they will screen three season 2 episodes from 7:30pm: "Furt" (ep 8), "The Rocky Horror Glee Show" (ep 5), and "Blame It on the Alcohol" (ep 14), so all out of order basically.

- I got hit by another story idea today. I love when that happens. And this plot-bunny happens to be particularly awesome!

- Bought Tomorrow When The War Began on DVD. It really is an excellent movie.

- I currently have 8 books in my to-read queue. I really need to get on that.

But that includes the book I'm currently reading (Kathy Reichs' young adult book, Virals), and the book I'm currently "not" reading (Sarah Waters' Tipping the Velvet) only because it is so, so good, and I never want it to end. I want to curl up in its pages forever. I put it down with a sigh after chapter 1 because I just wanted to revel in the feelings, and you only ever get one chance at reading a book for the first time, so I want this one to last.

But I have so many more lying on the floor beside my bed, waiting to be read. Books in waiting. Dreaming books.

- I'm getting really excited about Torchwood again (spoiler warning for that link). It sounds like it's going to be awesome! I can't wait. I'm so exciting to see Gwen again, and to meet the new characters and find out who they are. I have no doubt that it'll be amazing and I'll enjoy it because I'm still a sci-fi geek at heart.

- As for my other favourite slightly-unhinged show which is so far removed from sci-fi it's not funny... My idealised Glee wish list for the second half of season 2, no matter how unlikely:

cut for spoilers )

I know I can't possibly get everything on this list, but I know and suspect at least a couple of those are going to be coming along, so I'll be happy with those. And the rest I can write fanfic about. ^_^ I can't wait.

- Game of Thrones, the HBO series, will start, April 17. I'm still debating whether or not I'll watch it. It certainly sounds and looks like it's been done well, and Lena Headey's in it... but I'm already trying to keep up with too much other stuff. Maybe I'll just watch the first episode and then make up my mind.

- There's also new Doctor Who coming out at some point this year. Which I also want to keep up with.

- And before all of that I need to get some of these books read!

No, I'm not really complaining. If "too much to watch/read" is the biggest problem I have this year, I'll be ecstatic.
elfinblaze: (torchwood)
New-ish-ness, in point form:

- I love it when I get an SMS, and everyone around me goes for their phones. Yes, I am easily entertained.

- I know I'm going to regret it, but I'm going to have a squiz at the first episode of The Real L Word. I know, I know, curiousity killed the cat. But the cat does have nine lives, so...

- Managed to finish 3 books over the past 2 weeks so far and I'm going for a 4th tomorrow. That should help the back-log along a bit.

- The surgery scar on my wrist turns a deep purple when it's cold, which means I get a dark mark on the inside of my left forearm. Just not the Dark Mark; it's not that cool.

- Here, have a crack in the universe. Stick it on your wall.

And now I'm off to bed. Goodnight!

You know... this Doctor Who storyline is quite brilliant.

You might want to read this post if LJ's "outboundlink.me" bugs you, or if, like me, you have a nine year old computer that gets ridiculously slow trying to handle that script.

And no, I haven't watched the newest Doctor Who episode yet; I'm going to wait until I have next week's one. That's how much I loathe cliffhangers.

Also, I tend to forget episodes that end in cliffhangers. The thing is, I like to think things over when I get to the end of a piece, but with a cliffhanger there's no closure, it just stops. It leaves me going: "Okay then. What now?" and then I wander off to find something else to do, rather than sitting and thinking about it, becuase in my mind, the story isn't finished yet!

So when I don't think something over afterwards I tend to forget it very quickly. Hence, me forgetting entire episodes/pieces that end without resolution. The problem then is that the next expisode screens and I am completely lost because I can't remember what happened in the previous one, so I lose half the story.

I have the same problem with WIPs that end chapters in cliffhangers.

Does anyone else have this problem? I know I can't be the only one.

Anyway, I've learnt to avoid falling prey to cliffhanger endings, to the point where I sometimes won't even watch the last episode of a TV season until the next season, because too often seasons end in cliffhangers. I would rather have the whole story at once so I can degest it in peace in the end.

Thus, no Doctor Who for me this week.
elfinblaze: (torchwood)
I had a lightbulb moment tonight watching New New Doctor Who, episode 1, for the third time.

Speculation for the rest of the season )
elfinblaze: (torchwood)
I love holidays. I get to catch up on watching and reading all the stuff I don't have time for normally.

Watched the first episode of the New New Who.

I don't have any Doctor Who icons, so Torchwood will have to do.

Thoughts on The Eleventh Hour:

cut for spoilers )

Guess I'll have to wait and see what the rest of the series will be like.

Patient: So what did you do over the long weekend?
Me: Nothing really.
Patient: You didn't go out an celebrate Australia Day?
Me: No. I watched Doctor Who all weekend.
Patient: Oh. Well, that's worth it.

My life is full of interesting people! Interesting and awesome people.

I don't know how many Star Trek: The Next Generation fans I have on my F-List, but...

In our bathroom we have eight little lights above the mirror. Currently half of them are broken.

So now, every time I switch them on I think:

"There are four lights!"

In Picard's voice, of course.

In other fandom news:

I now have Doctor Who, seasons 1 - 4, on DVD. It was 38°C on Friday and I didn't want to walk home in that heat, so I went shopping instead. The ABC has an offer at the moment where you can buy all four of the new seasons of Doctor Who as a box set, and I figured since I was planning to buy them all eventually anyway, I may as well get them all now (for $300 all together instead of $400 individually).

So I did.

I have box #2352 of #2500.

Doctor Who

*squints at Doctor Who sideways* Okay, that was odd.

Again.

But not bad.

Again.

I just finished watching End of Time: Part 2. There's just one thing...

cut for spoilers )

Yes, minor detail, I know.

And I did love the scenes of Wilf and the Doctor. Most beautiful scenes in the entire episode.

And Russell Tovey!! *waves History Boys flag* Yay!

Ok, I'm going to bed now. Night all.

Finally watched Doctor Who (End of Time, Part 1). Still not sure what I thought of it. I've always found Doctor Who to be such a bizarre and ridiculous show, but here I am seeking it out, not every episode, but regularly enough, so obviously I enjoy something about it, I just haven't figured out what yet.

Anyway, it was odd. Not a bad thing, just... odd.

And the Ood still look Lovecraftian to me.

You know what? I'm sure John Simm just relished his role in this. It certainly looked like he was having a lot of fun. The Master race? That is a terrible pun. Admittedly it made me laugh. Obviously I'm easily amused.

And as much as I didn't like Donna when I first saw her in The Runaway Bride she's grown on me. Now I just feel sorry for her. *snort* Noble-Temple.

Anyway, we'll see what happens next. Looking forward to it. I don't care what anyone says about RTD's writing ability, he's still a great story-teller.

Three-day work-week this week! Yay!
